Software

This is where I write about software I actually use: what it is, why I picked it, what I like about it, and what drives me a little crazy. Some of it runs on my own servers, some of it is on my desk every day, and some of it is SaaS I have made peace with.

These are not reviews in the "top 10 apps of the year" sense. They are notes from living with the software long enough to have opinions about it.

How I Pick Software

I care less about feature lists than about what happens a year later: can I back it up, can I get my data out, does it keep working after an update, and will I still understand how it is set up when something breaks?
