Email is a very tricky subject and it's one that I am (for better or worse) well versed in. What you read in this section should be read carefully. It'll help you stay off RBLs and on the good side of the large email providers.
Why self-host email?
First, Big Tech doesn't own email. They shouldn't charge whatever they want. When you self-host email, you're participating in the global Internet in a positive way. You're owning your data. With the rate that Google kills products,
I half expect Google to shut down Gmail at any time. It's also a way to have portability. Don't like your current hosting provider? You can migrate to a better one and not have to change or lose anything. Another thing is that you have
more control over your domain. Spam? Easy More control to tame. Licenses? No way! (Unless, of course, you pick a commercial solution that utilizes a license).
Why not self-host email?
- It can be difficult.
- You have to deal with spam.
- It can be a headache.
RBLsScams like UCEPROTECT are a bane of your existance.- RBLs are a bane of your existance.
- You have to know how to read email headers.
