The web has changed since 2010-2012. I'd say that this is when it all started to go downhill, and fast. This is when people stopped making websites and started using social media platforms to host their content. This is when Facebook groups absolutely obliterated forums. This is when many people decided to stop paying for websites and created Facebook groups and just used their Facebook profile or fan page (yeah, remember those?) as a website.

I see it all the time. People complain about their thoughts being removed by Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or whatever social network they're using. They complain about their content being removed, their accounts being suspended, or their posts being hidden. And yet, they continue to use these platforms as if they own them. They continue to use these platforms as if they have any control over their content. They continue to use these platforms as if they have any say in how their content is displayed or who can see it.

And these platforms will gladly host scams and misinformation, but if you post that it's a scam or misinformation, they'll put you in timeout. I was put in timeout on Instagram for calling out scams. It really pissed me off. That's why I still have a personal website. This is My Space. These words are mine. They can't be censored. Well, they can, but it takes a lot more effort.
